dc.description This study examined the effectiveness of government’s services in tourism sector in Tanzania, In Tanzania tourism business is practiced by private sector, where as the players are tour operators, hotel owners, car rental, travel argents, mountain climbing companies to mention the few. The government is regulating the industry, where as provision and facilitating reliable transportation infrastructure, development of tourist attraction, information dissemination to expected visitors, monitoring and vii control of the industry’s key players are some of the services that the government has to provide so as to have the prosperity of tourism sector in the country. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. Purposively sampling was used to select respondents from the government; random sampling was used to select tourists as the representatives of the study. The study sample involved 100 respondents. The study found that the government’s efforts to disseminate information to expect tourists are not effective, where as about 60 % of respondents got information about Tanzania through tour operators not MNRT and her institution. Also the it was observed that there is a transportation problem especially air transport, there are no direct flights from the countries which are the leading source market for Tanzania, where as visitors always have to connect flights from their origin, which is inconvenient to them and discourage a repeat visit. It was further observed that the government’s use of online media in operation is ineffective; where as key players of tourism industry are still obliged to use traditional means to apply for registration and licenses. The study found out that the government (MNRT) does not regularly conduct inspection exercises to the operators, which gives room law bleachers to easily tarnish the image of the sector and the country at large before international visitors. Therefore the study recommends to the government, following encourage the use of online media in her daily operations, have regular inspections of tour operators to maintain service quality, empower the national airline (ATCL), and promoting other tourism circuits the likes of southern, and western.
