In order to understand this impact PRIDE was selected as the case study, and SMEs that are financed by PRIDE in Dar es Salaam were selected to represent SMEs. This study intended to investigate the impact of MFIs in financing of SMEs in Tanzania, with a particular interest in the role that micro-finance institutions play in the growth of SMEs. It analyze the effect of MFIs on the growth of SMEs in Tanzania and it proposes a more effective approach that MFIs can adopt in order to meet the growth-oriented needs of SMEs. In this research, Mixed method approach was adopted for additive purposes, but also to complement weakness and strengths of both approaches. Simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select 152 respondents. Data were collected through interviews, questionnaires and Documentary reviews. Data were finally analyzed and interpreted then figures and tables were presented. This study indicated that PRIDE Tanzania assist SMEs to have greater access to credit, savings enhancement and provision of business, financial and managerial training.. However, it was found that, the major challenge faced by SMEs is the cumbersome process associated with accessing credit of which collateral security and high interest rate are major setback. The MFIs on the other hand, face some challenges relating to credit misappropriation and non-disclosure of the relevant facts of their businesses. It is recommended that proper and extensive monitoring activities should be provided for clients who are granted loans. In order to reduce the rate of default, PRIDE and MFIs can research into very profitable business lines and offer credit to clients who have the capacity to exploit such business
