Performance and factors that drive performance of financial institutions are very
much an integral part in understanding and streamlining their operations. There are a
number of these factors that range from strategic through environmental to technical.
Of importance are the metrics used in measuring the performance of a financial
institution.In this study using the publicly available financial statement of Diamond Trust Bankvarious performance measurements were used to determine the performance of this
bank.Main objectives of the study were to assess the factors that drive the performance of
financial institution in Tanzania, to explore the significance of financial institution in
the economy as well as their contributions to our economy. Methodology used
involved research design, procedures of data collections and data analysis.
From the methodology the study findings show that the Bank’s ROE is quite
impressive recording an increase over the two years of study, however EVA
indicates a destruction of the shareholders wealth and leverage ratios indicate a
mixed performance that require intervention. Overall the bank is performing well as
indicators suggest in the next pages, but the Bank administration should look
carefully at the investments and projects as it is currently have a negative EVA as
well as be careful on the leverage rate of the bank.
