Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) in developing countries remains high. This study explores the role of Clean Delivery Packs (CDPs) in reducing maternal mortality. Using a case study research design, a total of 101 participants were involved in this study. This includes 79 pregnant mothers who received CDP’s and 22 health care providers from the rural areas in central region in Tanzania. The study also included 22 health workers who had attended training and got experience on the use of CDPs. However, the findings from the study indicate that there was high level of acceptance on the use of CDPs by the pregnant women by 17.3% in Chamwino-Ikulu and 16.3% in Mlowa. In order for Chamwino (DC) to reduce Maternal Mortality it is recommended to promote pregnant women’s knowledge through conducting seminars, health education and sensitization activities that improve family and community attitudes and practices in relation to pregnancy and childbirth. This study suggests that health facilities should improve the health care system’s response to the needs of pregnant women and their newborns. The study also recommends the need to improve the district level management of health services, including the provision of adequate staffing, logistics and supply of CDP’s. |
