dc.description The overall objective of the study was to assess the factors contributing to work related stress among nurses, a case study of Mwananyamala referral hospital in Kinondoni district focusing on the causes, types of job stress nurses experience, effect and strategies implemented by Mwananyamala hospital to solve the problem. Literature review was done to describe the general concept concerning the issue of work related stress among nurses in the public hospitals. The theoretical part based on theories of work related stress, Historical back ground on work related to stress, Types of stress, sign and symptoms of work related stress, measurement of work related stress and preventive strategies for stress Management. Empirical part based on how other literature review understand the all concept of work stress among nurses and objective of literature review was to assist establishing the research gap. The study used case study design that is single case of Mwananyamala referral Hospital. The researcher selected 62 respondents as a sample size obtained from different departments in Mwananyamala hospital. Questionnaire and structured interview methods of data collection were used to collect primary data that were processed through manual sorting by editing, coding, classification and compilation. Also the study employed secondary data by reviewing various literatures and document in relation to factors contributing on work related stress among nurses. The purposive sampling was employed in selecting 60 nurses and simple random sampling was also employed in selecting 2 Health administrators from Mwananyamala hospital. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics like tables and pie charts. Also descriptive analysis was used in respondent‟s perceptions and feeling regarding the concept of work related stress among nurses in Mwananyamala hospital. Findings from the study showed that low salary package (34%) is one of the major cause of work related stress among nurses in Mwananyamala hospital, Also the major stress nurses experience in their working activities are Death and dying of the patients with (49%), Physical effects (35%) are the major effect of work related stress among nurses in Mwananyamala hospital. So it is recommended that (28%) of the respondents suggested on Management of Mwananyamala hospital with the collaborations of government through (MOHSW) should increase salary package of nurses which includes increasing of allowances and overtime payment in order to solve the problem of work related stress among nurse.
