dc.description A Dissertation Submitted to Mzumbe University, Dar es Salaam Campus College as a Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Award of the Degree of Master of Public Administration (MPA) The purpose of the study was to examine the role of the media in educating citizens on uranium mining: a case study of print media (the daily news, the citizens and the guardian).
dc.description The objective of this study was first to examine the level of media knowledge on uranium as a mineral and its mining processes in the country. Second to determine role played by the media in awareness creation on uranium mining to the general public through stories they publish. And third o examine the challenges faced by the media in reporting on uranium and issues related to its mining, storage, usage and transportation examine the role of human resource planning in organization. A case study method was used purposely to merge the research objectives with the economic issues in terms of time and money. The research approach used in the study was qualitative method and some of the data were quantified hence some elements of quantitative approach were employed. The sample size of the study was 70 respondents, drawn from the media house mentioned above and Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission nuclear staff experts. Sample for this study was obtained using both purposive and simple stratified sampling. Methods used for data collection included interviews; questionnaires, observation and documentary review this helped to ensure the significant information to be obtain from different sources. Data was analyzed using qualitative technique such as thematic analysis and for the quantifiable data, tabulations and computer packages such as Statistical Packages for Social Sciences was used to develop charts and graphs.
