dc.description Administration in Corporate Management (MBA- CM) of Mzumbe University. Contract management is an important aspect in procurement cycle which ensures that client gets what was supposed to be procured. Client put a lot of efforts in the procurement process to insure that they select a contractor, supplier or service provider who shall deliver the good, works and service within the agreed period. While some public authorities have became adept commissioner of service from all sector aborted contract and long –drawn out procurement process continue to impose additional unnecessary cost on tax payer, undermine the confidence of alternative provider and delays the introduction of improved service delivery (John, 2009).The purpose of this study was to determine the challenges faced by Public Sectors on contract management. The study used a case study research design. The research was conducted in Ocean Road Cancer Institute. Data was obtained from 30 employees who were selected purposively by the researcher. However, the data collected analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software verson11.5. Frequencies, means and percentages were used for descriptive. The study found out that most contract were managed according to PPA and its regulation .In addition, a few respondent were found to be not familiar with the contract management. Lack of procurement specialist, shortage of staff and lack of staff training and career development are among the challenges that were found to cause poor contract management in public sectors. The study recommended that the Ocean Road Cancer Institute should introduce modern facilities like computer package to enable them to manage contract more appropriately and efficiently. In additional, staff remuneration should be enriched to foster employees’ morale and job satisfaction. It is further recommended that there should be in place measures to ensure proper recruitment policy as well as staff training and career development programmes. Finally it is recommended that, further researches should be done to cover the wide area so as to discover more challenges that contributing to poor contract management in public sector in Tanzania.
