dc.description The research was done on the role of Mobile Money based Transfer on Small Business Performance and Dar es Salaam based small businesses were used as units of study. 90 respondents, namely small business owners and operators participated in this study. The aim of this study was to assess the role of mobile phone –based payments on small business performance. The specific objectives are; to examine the influence of mobile phone-based money transfer on the number of customers; to determine the intention of using mobile-phone based money transfer by small business operators. Other specific objectives are; to identify the influence of mobile- phone based money transfer in the geographical expansion of the business and to assess the influence of mobile phone based money transfer on business operating costs. Since the study was intended to explain the role of mobile phone-based money transfer in small business performance, it used survey methods and instruments namely questionnaires, focus group discussions and interviews in collecting data. Moreover, both primary and secondary data were used while Descriptive data analysis methods such as percentages were used. The analysed data were presented using tables. From the study findings, it has been realized that Mobile Money based Transfer has an influence on Small Business Performance. In addition, employees’ involvement, perception and communication have significant influence on successfully change management. However, employees with lower education level and managerial position are not involved during the introduction of organizational change management. Among others, the study makes the following recommendations: there should be an effort of educating small business owners/operators on the business use of mobile technology and the way mobile technology can be used as means of record keeping. Also the MMT service provider should enhance the security of the system.
