dc.description A Dissertation Submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirement for the Degree of Master of Science in procurement and supply chain Management of Mzumbe University
dc.description The aim of this study was to examine the impact of raw material price changes along supply chain and the company productivity in Tanzania, a case study of Maweni Limestone Company. Specifically, the study aimed to identify the relationship between raw material price changes and company productivity, to examine the company’s efforts to ensure they are continuing with normal production when the price of raw materials change, to assess if government of Tanzania helps out in solving the problem of price change. The methodology used to conduct this study was case study research and involved the use of various data collection methods and tools such as questionnaires and interviews. The study also used secondary data collection methods such as documentation of annual reports from the mentioned company. The study found that change of raw material prices was associated with the change of the productivity in which there was inverse relationship. This means that the increase of price of raw material lead to the decrease of the profitability and vice versa. The Case Study for Maweni Limestone Ltd illustrated that the stock management, use of substitute materials and company policies were the key strategic elements which have been used by manufacturers to ensure that production could not be affected by the volatility of the materials’ prices. However, the effort of government to ensure supply of raw material to the manufacturing companies was rated to be very low. The study recommended that the government should control exportation of raw material so that local manufacturers will have enough material to run their businesses today and in the future.
