This research examines the influence of financial rewards on the performance of
Immigration Department in illegal immigrants. It specifically sought to determine the
types of financial rewards provided by Department to its employees, explore the
extent to which financial rewards influenced performance of Department in illegal
immigrants and to examine the relationship between salary increase and introduction
of ration allowance against organizational performance on illegal immigrants.
Interviews and observation were used as major methods of collecting data while
questionnaire was employed to support the two methods. In the process of collecting
the data 60 employees from different sections in the Department were involved.
This study has revealed that, the relationship between salary and other financial
incentives such as introduction of ration allowance and organization performance are
two opposing sides. That means as financial rewards increased, performance of
Immigration Department on illegal immigrants decreased. Basically, the number of
illegal immigrants entered the country and the answers from respondents determined
the results. Other factors such as non-financial rewards also should be taken into
consideration to motivate employees as suggested by the researcher in this study. The
study also revealed that employees knew what is to be done in order to motivate
them to perform and they would prefer management to give them what they want.
The research has discovered the extent to which financial rewards has influenced
performance of the Immigration Department on illegal immigrants and how much
employees were motivated by the rewards offered to them. The researcher has
concluded by suggesting formulation of financial incentives scheme which will
specify types and criteria of awarding rewards. Management should also provide
attractive and motivating salary structure to the employees. Moreover, salaries and
other rewards should be fair to all cadres of employees. Lastly, the management
should establish a fair evaluation system of employees which consists of fair reward
Criteria of assessment of employees.
