dc.description The study was intended to determine factors for adoption of greenhouse farming technology among farmers at Kinondoni Municipality in Dar es Salaam region. The study involved the population of 50 individuals, who are stakeholders in greenhouse farming. The study used the snowball sampling and purposeful sampling techniques, the sample size was 20 respondents. The data collection method involved qualitative and quantitative techniques, for qualitative data, In-depth interviews were conducted to the farmers and for quantitative data, semi structured questionnaire was administered to the farmers. The questionnaire consisted of both open and close ended questionnaire. It captured respondent’s profiles on awareness, factors for adoption, challenges facing farmers in using greenhouse farming technology. Data analysis was done using statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 20 for quantitative data also inductive thematic approach was employed in the analysis of data from interviews where emerging themes were identified and linked to the collected data. Multiple response questions were coded for multiple response analysis for the open- ended questionnaires. The results were presented using frequencies, percentage distribution, tables, and bar charts. The studies found that more than (95%) of respondents by were aware of greenhouse farming technology and had adopted particular technology for more than two (2) years. More over the study found that there are several challenges which include hot coastal climate, insufficient supply of experts, and limited agriculture knowledge on greenhouse management limit ability to use greenhouse effectively. In the view of the findings, the researcher recommends more education to be provided to enhance more positive awareness about greenhouse farming technology particular as to why it is worth for amount of cash it requires for a farmer to install the system and further study on ways to improve greenhouse farming in coastal areas.
