Elderly people constitute only a small proportion of Tanzanians population. They are also important in preserving and maintaining Tanzania’s culture during this transitional period of the world brought by globalization which brings economic and cultural changes as well. Older people can no longer work to earn their sufficient income, are more likely to experience social segregation rights abuse and discrimination. This paper intended to explain three main areas which are, the elderly social security services available at a moment, the importance of universal social security provision to elderly people in a country, the paths towards universal social security provision to the elderly in Tanzania mainland. It is revealed that although the country had introduce social security to elderly people in Tanzania, but the social security still inadequate. These social securities include social insurance, social assistance and social welfare. It is concluded that there is no any universal social security service provided to the elderly people in Tanzania mainland at a moment. The available social security services at a moment based to contributions either voluntary or through employment wage bases. Therefore this paper recommends the government should improve all the elderly homes and make sure that they have all the necessary needs of the elderly people, renovate them and prepare good and friendly environment for elderly psychological treatment as most of the elderly going into these homes are those who were neglected by their families and the most vulnerable. |
