The study aimed to assess the contribution of Biometric Voters Registration (BVR) technology in bringing about quality, safer and credible elections in Tanzania.
The data were collected from the sample size of 39 respondents. The number was strong enough to get the required responses. Sampling technique deployed was purposive sampling for the aim of the right people skilled and knowledgeable in Biometric Voter Registration and elections processes. The study used both primary and secondary data, Secondary data were much coming from Elections reports and BVR related registration as done in different areas. This was very important in determining the validity and reliability of the findings. Interviews guide with respondents, observation in sites and documentary review were used to collect useful information of the study. In this study, data were analyzed through qualitative methods because the study involved only qualitative data. Data were collected using interviews guide, observation and documentary review. The data were presented in a descriptive way.
The findings unfolded that stakeholders are important in the process of updating PNVR using BVR and they are involved to the great extend. Technical issues affecting BVR technology in its application are dealt with technical support team of experts so that no any significant bad impact. The study also finds that, the government and NEC are willing and prepared when it comes to updating PNVR using BVR technology. Government provides the required support for the smooth running of the exercise as the preparation of credible election.
It is so concluded in the study that, BVR technology is important to eligible voter registration in Tanzania. The quality the voter roll enhances smooth and credible election.
The researcher generally recommends that, every necessary step of updating PNVR should not be neglected so as to have the credible voters register.
