Social media can play a vital role to ensure easy access to information related to
women land rights in many countries including Tanzania. This dissertation assesses the
contribution of social media in promoting women land issues in Tanzania whereby
100 respondents included in the study. Data collection methods used were
questionnaires and interview. Data collection instruments were questionnaire guide
and interview guide. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Statistical Package
for Social Sciences (SPSS) whereby frequencies and percentages were used to
elaborate analytical results. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.
Generally, findings revealed that, while social media was found to be essential in
promoting women land issues by influencing collective actions through mobilization;
the platforms were found to be mostly used as alternative leisure rather than as a
means of accessing the information on public concerns. It is revealed that many people
are not using social media to access important information. Thus, social media
contribution in promoting women land issues is not much impressive compared to
the contribution of social media in other issues like women political issues and
fashion and design issues. Secondly, issues such as laws and regulations, shortage of
funds, insufficient technology infrastructure, and illiteracy were among the challenges
found to hinder women to access information related to land rights at Kibaha district
council. Moreover, the study revealed measures to be applied to ensure and
influence women land rights at Kibaha district council, including allocation of
enough budget, provision of education, proper network infrastructure, and the
abolition of outdated traditional beliefs. It is concluded that the use of social media is
essential to ensure an easier and quicker way to ensure easy access to information related
to women land issues, thus it is important to be considered and taken to account for
community benefit, especially women. Some of the recommendations are allocation
of enough budget and also recommended the government to enact laws and policies
to enhance easier access to information with the purpose of promoting public
concerns including women land issues |
