dc.description A Dissertation Submitted to the School Of Business in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Award of the Degree of Master of Business Administration in Corporate Management of Mzumbe University (MBA-CM) 2019
dc.description The purpose of this study was to explore factors influencing employee’s motivation in law enforcement agencies. A case study research design was employed and the data collected via focus group discussion from 32 employees in PCCB District offices; Nyamagana, Ilemela,Sengerema and Magu. The focus group discussion findings were then supplemented by interviews from 4 District Commanders of each District and 3 members of the management from the region office. In addition, a qualitative research approach was used in analysing the findings. For the first objective that focused on the influence of reward and recognition, it was generally found that employee in all district are motivated intrinsically with reward and recognition. On the second objective, it was found that employees in Nyamagana and Ilemela PCCB District office, have higher perception on training and development as intrinsic motivation factor towards their performance in law enforcement responsibilities at PCCB while, few employees particularly those from Magu and Sengerema PCCB District office, revealed to have low perception on training and development as an intrinsic motivation factor that influence them towards performing law enforcement responsibilities. On the third objective, it was found that employees at PCCB in all the selected district are motived with remuneration as one of the extrinsic factor to theirmotivation. On the challenges, it was established that poor clients’ understanding of the laws; inadequate working facilities; political pressure whereby some of the decisions are influenced by politics; lack of human capacity in investigating some professional crimes; corruption from the crime committing client and; abuse of power from some clients with high position in the government are the most important challenges that face employees in performing law enforcement activities. It is recommended to management in any organisation to put focus on employees’ motivations not only on the extrinsic factors such as monetary compensation but also, also on the intrinsic factors that play a great importance to an employee. Itis also recommended to the management that, when they are thinking of the monetary compensation, they should also think about other factors that are extrinsic to employee motivation.
