This study examined factors that contribute to cybercrime in mobile money services in Tanzania, a case of Kibaha Town District. The study was guided by three specific objectives: examining the level of technological literacy to the victims that were affected by cybercrime incidence; identifying whether technical security loophole leads to cybercrime and determining whether mobile money agents contributes to cybercrime occurrence.
The researcher used qualitative approach as the main methodology but employed some quantitative elements in analyzing the findings. The researcher used questionnaires and observations guide to collect information from selected respondents in Kibaha District. The sample had 120 respondents comprising of 30 Police Officers, 9 Service Providers, and 63 Users of mobile money services and 18 Government Officers.
The findings indicated that, cybercrime in mobile money services in Kibaha Town District was contributed by the technical literacy to the victims, technical security loophole as well as the acts of mobile money agents.
The researcher recommends that, the government should make efforts in providing education to the key players, should strongly implement Policies, Laws and Regulations which guide Financial Sector as a crucial issue for the development of the sector in Tanzania.
