dc.description The study on role of staff job promotion towards performance was conducted at the Police headquarters Dar es Salaam. The general objective of study was to examine the role of promotion towards staff job Performance among the staff at Tanzania Policy Force (TPF). Specifically, the study focused, to investigate the promotion criteria used in TPF; to examine whether promotion leads to efficiency in TPF and to explore the influence of promotion on job attendance among TPF officers. The study employed a case study research design that uses both qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data collection tools used were questionnaires, interview guide as well as observation guide. The study used purposive and convenience sampling methods to select the respondents. A total of 40 staff of TPF headquarter was selected. Collected data was analyzed and presented in graphs and paragraphed explanations that also include computed percentages. Study findings reveals that there is a set promotion criterion in the TPF under the PGO but not consistent and adhered to. Also, promotion was found to influence job performance of staff in TPF both in outdoor activities and in office executions. The findings reveal that promotion leads to improvement in job attendance among staff of TPF. The study therefore concluded that there is a set promotion criteria followed by TPF although, lacks consistency in implimentation and adherence which creates a gap in staff performance. The study made recommendations that the TPF should come up with mechanisms to monitor the implementation of PGO set of criteria and policies on promotion. Increase the department’s budget in order to facilitate promotion and incentives that come along with it.
