dc.description This study aimed to investigate the impact of organisational leadership change and leadership styles on employee performance, the case of the University of Dar es Salaam. Specific objectives were to: explore the importance of organisational leadership change at the University of Dar es Salaam; assess the impacts of institutional leadership change and the employee performance at the University of Dar es Salaam; and explore the ways organisational leadership change improves employee’s performance at the University of Dar es Salaam. The study was guided by Kotter’s (2003) Change Model and employed a mix-research approach. The sample size of the respondents was fifty five who were selected through purposive and simple random sampling techniques. Data were collected using interviews, focused group discussions, questionnaires and documentary review methods. The study findings revealed that: organisational leadership change has changed managerial perspectives towards competition; improvements in welfare of workers; the lower cadre and junior staff are accommodated nearby university premises; funeral policies have been revised to help the employees; and more infrastructures have been improved. Also, through democratic leadership style risks and mistakes are minimized and controlled and self- regulatory behaviour has been enhanced; also employees were committed to work, state of urgency was instilled, employee’s behaviours, and motivation were improved. Moreover, innovations and enhancement of cooperation, collaboration and communication improves employee’s performance. The study recommends to the Ministry of Education Science and Technology to establish a strong relationship with the University of Dar es Salaam to improve teaching and learning environment by providing working facilities. There have to be in-service training, seminars and workshops to all employees to upgrade knowledge and skills. Enough funds be secured to support further studies for employees. Also, housing facilities and other welfare facilities have to be provided to workers at the University of Dar es Salaam. This will address delays due to transport problem to be solved. The university top management has to establish clear communication with the lower cadre employees and establish reliable transport system to those employees who are outskirt dwellers.
