relation to workers’ job performance. The study employed the case study design
accompanied by qualitative research approach with some quantitative aspects.

needs theory, and theory “x” and theory “y”. A triangulated data collection strategy
was deployed including interviews, focus group discussions and documentary
review. All the generated data were subjected to content analysis for the purpose of
obtaining themes and sub-themes of the study.
The findings indicated that, (i) Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations are vital in
worker’s job performance, (ii) Promotions, salaries, training of staff and working
environment were among the strategies used to motivate workers, (iii) Ways to
perform jobs, customer’s needs and ownership of the work are among the roles of
motivation.
The study recommends that, policy is needed to safeguard interests of the workers
and employers to ensure good practices, Directors should consider a variety of
motivational strategies, Human resource Manager be knowledgeable on various
issues related to promotions criteria, work load policy and so on; and that other
studies should be done to other telecommunication companies.
