Sustainable procurement is a tool towards sustainable development. This study focused on factors affecting the adoption of sustainable procurement in public organizations in Tanzania, a case of Public Services Social Security Fund (PSSSF). The study based on four objectives which were assessing policies and regulations affecting the adoption sustainable procurement in PSSSF, the commodity availability affecting the adoption of sustainable in PSSSF, the commodity price affecting the adoption of sustainable in PSSSF, and stakeholders awareness affecting the adoption of sustainable procurement in PSSSF. The study used descriptive survey design where a purposive sample of PSSSF officials were used of which out of 56prospective respondents only 52 responded to the study. Data was collected through questionnaires and interview. Collected qualitative and quantitative data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Multiple regression was then used to establish the relationship between dependent variables and independent variables. The study findings revealed that procurement policies and regulations has a significant effect on adoption of sustainable procurement in public institutions. Further the findings indicated that price and availability of sustainable products in the market has a negative effect towards acceptance of sustainable procurement practice in government organizations in Tanzania. The study recommended that the government of the United Republic of Tanzania could put in place sustainable procurement policy so as to facilitate the adoption and implementation of sustainable procurement. Additionally, the government could create favorable conditions for adoption through capacity building and sensitization, emphasis on purchasing sustainable products, works and services as well as provision of various incentives to investors in sustainable procurement so as to ensure security in supply plus minimizing prices for sustainable products.
