Since the development of technology, now it’s normal to conduct most activities online. The online transaction simplifies the way intellectuals, among peoples market their copyrighted works. For instance, authors sell books online, musician sell their musical work as well as film actor sells their movies through internet. This done through website provided, despite of simplifying transactions and services, but the internet become an engine for pirates infringes upon copyrighted works. Through this infringement the authors lost neither economic rights nor acknowledgement of his/her copyrighted work. In addition to that, the research will enable the readers to understand on how the internet and digitalization has enable materials to be used in different media to be copied at the same quality as an original, to be manipulated and distorted as well as to be distributed throughout the world cheaply, easily, and speedily, which contributed much to the moral rights and economic rights of the authors work.
The paper discussed the challenges posed by digitalization and the internet in the protection of copyright system in Tanzania, such as emergence of new forms of copyright infringement in the cyberspace, growth of multimedia technology offering large storage of a wide variety of works on a single disk such as compact disk (CD) or Digital Versatile Disk (DVD), complexity in detecting copyright infringement, to mention few, thereafter looking into the international and national initiative on protection of copyright, it stretches further to elaborate effects of advancement of technology and the internet to the copyrighted work, hence the effects of inadequacies in our legal framework to cope with the digital age, it ultimately suggests the necessary recommendation that will enable effective regulation of protection of copyright system in the digital world rather than conventional world.
To acquire the data, the researcher employed field data collection methods as well as library research. The findings from the study indicate that, the weakness on the substantive part of law, threat obstacles from the internet and digitalization in protection of copyright work.
