This research report is about assessing the factors influencing supplier selection in procurement of goods in public organization. The study was conducted at Government Procurement Services Agency (GPSA) in Mwanza, for four months, from October 2019 to February 2020. The main objective of this research was to assess the factors influencing supplier selection in procurement of goods in public organization. The specific objectives of are to identify the procurement methods of goods used by GPSA, to determine on suppliers selection process at GPSA and to determine the factors influencing the selection of suppliers in the procurement of goods at GPSA in Mwanza.
The methods of data collection were questionnaire, interviews and observation. The researcher used probability sampling in selecting the sample because; every member at GPSA had a known or nonzero probability of being selected. In this study the researcher conducted the study under 45 respondents whereby male were 20 respondents equivalent to 44.4% and female respondents were 25 equivalent to 55.6% which makes a total of 100%. It was observed that there are some services provided by GPSA to the public includes; ensuring quality office supplies for office use, clearing and forwarding. According to the findings obtained by the researcher, is that GPSA as a public organization considers much supplier selection criteria in selecting the supplier of goods so as to avoid the poor performance of the organization which can be caused by poor supplier selection factors. Supplier selection processes when procuring goods considers; quality, cost and delivery, long-term relationship and financial stability of the supplier. Also GPSA follows different stages in selecting the best supplier of goods like; evaluating offers, operational capacity analysis, technical capacity determination and financial analysis.
Therefore, by considering the conclusion drawn from this report is that, for GPSA as a public organization considers different factors for the supplier of goods to be selected. It is recommended that right procurement methods, supplier selection process and supplier selection criteria are the factors ensuring success of the organization. |
