The main purpose of the study was to assess factors influencing supplier selection in the procurement of goods in public organizations, a case of Kibaha Education Centre (KEC), Coast-Region. The specific objectives of this study were; to determine the influence of supplier technical capability in procurement, to determine procurement methods used in selecting suppliers in procurement and to determine the influence of services delivery toward supplier selection in procurement at Kibaha Education Centre. The study used a case study design. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentary reviews. The study used quantitative approaches in collecting data from the population of 102 respondents. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze preliminary data. Factor analysis was applied to test and measures scale of variables and lastly simple regression analysis modal was used to measure the relationship between independent variable against dependent variable. From the findings of the study revealed that there was positive relationship between technical capability and supplier selection in procurement of goods and in the other side it was revealed that procurement method used at KEC had a significant influence positive with the selection of supplier in procurement of goods and service delivery influenced significantly selection of supplier in procurement at KEC. Furthermore, the findings of this study concluded that technical capability is the most important factor influencing suppliers’ selection at KEC. Therefore, it has been revealed that technical capability criterion is the most important factor that Kibaha Education Centre (KEC) should consider before engaging suppliers.
The study recommends that, the organization should use other procurement methods like competitive tendering and force account should be applied to involve many suppliers (competitive tendering) so as to achieve organization’s value for money. The organization also should consider the application of e-procurement in the process of selecting suppliers in procurement of goods. Furthermore, the researcher recommends that, there is need for further research to be conducted on studies on assessment of the effects of supplier selection criteria practices and their effectiveness on the process.
