dc.description This report is taken to make assessment on the effectiveness of the law and practice of arrest by private person in Tanzania, a case study of Shinyanga region. The General objectives was to make an assessment on the effectiveness of law and practice in the law of arrest by private person, to ensure effectiveness of this law, and Specific objectives of this study were; To identify the factors that hinders the effectiveness of the law and practice of arrest by private person in Tanzania, Analysis on the effectiveness of the law and practice of the law of arrest by private person and its guarantee to the current laws and to assess on the knowledge of the private persons on the law of arrest by private person and possible ways of enforcing this law. The researcher applied both primary and secondary data, the research used interview and questionnaires to the respondents, the purpose of using interview was due to shortage of enough time to the respondents, and using questionnaires is because it gives the respondents enough time to pass through questions and provide reliable information basing on the matter in hand. The researcher found that, the issue of arrest by private person in Tanzania are faced with many problems such as cumbersome procedures and technicalities, awareness to enforce this right as well as lack of legal arresting skills, but also the study revealed the finds that the arrest by private person as an individual right is very known to those person who have legal knowledge and few people who are educated person, but most of the majority in Tanzania are illiterate and hence are unaware with practice of arrest by private person. From the above findings it revealed that, though there is clear provision providing for the legal right of arrest by private person majority of citizens have no clear knowledge on the right to arrest due to the fact that it implementation are very minimal. Therefore the researcher came up with the recommendations that, there is a need of enforcement of this right through legislation or enactment
