The main objective of the study was to examine the influence of leadership
performance in facilitating organizational development of public entities in Tanzania
with the focus on the influence of leadership performance in facilitating
organizational development in public sectors with a focus on the Tanzania Ports
Authority. The study involved examination of leadership practices being
implemented for organizational development, its impact on the organizational
performance, the perception of employees on leadership performance and the issues
affecting the implementation of leadership performance in relation to the
performance of the Tanzania Ports Authority. The study employed a qualitative
approach in the collection of data and a case study research design was used in the
conduct of the study. Qualitative data was collected from the primary and secondary
sources through the use of interviews, questionnaires and documentary review and a
total of 75 respondents were involved in the study. The respondents were selected
through the accidental and judgmental sampling and data was analyzed qualitatively
through making connections and drawing conclusions from the generated data and
the presentation of tables and figures with the usage of the SPSS version 20. The
study has revealed that there is a relationship between leadership performance and
the organizational development. The study has further revealed that, performance
leadership is perceived as a performance oriented approach, as a link to performance
structures and processes with organizational development and viewed as a platform
for engagement of stakeholders. The study has also revealed that, among the
challenges being faced include, inadequate budgets (16%), politicization of
leadership (21.3%), and inadequate skills on leadership performance (13.
3%).Therefore, the study has established that leadership performance can influence
organizational development and in order that it is sustained, the Tanzania Ports
Authority has to invest in training, strategic planning, effective budgeting and
engagement of stakeholders. |
