dc.description This study assesses the impact of motivation and pay policy on the performance of employees in Non-Governmental organizations in Tanzania. Among the many aspects which can drive an employee to perform well is motivation. Motivation is a drive which makes an individual produce a particular result. The main objective of this study is to investigate the impact of motivation and pay policy on the performance of employees. The specific objectives of the study were; to determine the employee performance of employees at Every Living Thing, to determine the motivation and pay policy used at Every Living Thing and to determine the influence that motivation and pay policy has on the employee performance at Every Living Thing.Various studies have already been conducted on the factors which lead to the performance of employees, the literature review summarized what the other studies observed in regard of how compensations, recognition and promotions affect the performance of employees. This study based on Every Living Thing as the NGO under observation. The study used the case study research design and involved questionnaires and interviews of the employees and the management respectively in order to obtain its findings. Their responses were later on analyzed by the use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) so as to achieve the appropriate conclusions. Upon conclusion, it was found that a majority of the employees were not satisfied with the monetary incentives (salaries, bonuses, transport allowance) that they were receiving and were not obtaining any rent allowances. However, a majority were satisfied with the recognition and promotion schemes. The findings that were obtained from the study confirm a high relation between motivation and performance of employees. It is recommended that Every Living Thing should revise and update their pay policy, ensure employees are recognized when they perform well, improve the organizational structure to ease communication so as to ensure that their staff are happy and comfortable in their work place.
