For service organizations to achieve higher performance, leadership implementation should not be compromised at all costs. Employing of reliable and a valid instrument of individual leadership measurement is essential for employee performance. The research focused on the effect of individual leadership on employee performance in institution at Vocation Educational Training Authority Chang’ombe. It was established that VETA widely employed leadership skills in responding to their employee performance. The individual leadership metrics in this regard were; People focus, Problem solver, Approachable to task, Risk taker, Facilitator and Follower while the employee performance metrics were determined by Work quality, Work quantity and Work efficiency. Both interview and questionnaires were used as the data collection tools and data were analysed descriptively involving frequency and percentages, qualitative narrative analysis was used to analyse the qualitative information from the interviews which showed VETA encountered several challenges such as inadequacy of trained personnel’s in different academic fields and lack of modern tools such as laptops. Furthermore, the tutor to student ratio were very minimal whereby accessing the 24hr education service were futile. There was high absenteeism rate due to inability to utilize leadership skills. The result showed poor work efficiency while the institution revenue were not correctly managed. The recommendations were; a facilitative leadership role must be employed to curb the absenteeism rate, in order to improve work efficiency any problem encountered by an employee should be solved amicably. In addition, the institution must focus on its human resources in order to increase the revenue capacity as well as offer training opportunities to her staff about leadership roles. However, it is important to note that, organizations should constantly monitor their performance and employ valid and reliable metrics which are well designed, defined and implemented amicably with scientific rigour.
