The study assessed the effectiveness of the National Policy on HIV and AIDS in a public organizations in Tanzania. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the effectiveness of National policy on HIV/AIDS in increasing awareness of HIV/AIDS; to determine the extent of the distribution of male and female condoms and; to assess the employee’s attitude on trainging, education and counseling of HIV/AIDS.The study was conducted atTanzania Port Authority of Dar es Salaam. The study adopted a case study research design. The study used different techniques for data collection such as structured interviews, observation and documentary review. Data collection instruments used arequestionnaires, interview guide, observation guide and documentary review. A sample size of the study was 86 respondents in which 86 of them were given questionnaires and 10 were interviewed. Purposive sampling technique was employed to the head of departments while random sampling was used to select the junior staff in the departments. Data collected through questionnaire method was analysed quantitatively and was presented inform of table with the assistance of SPSS software. The findings of this study discovered that the employees were satisfied with the training, education and awareness concerning the epidemic from the HIV/AIDS programs offered by the organization. There are still people who think that there is a vaccineagainst HIV/AIDS the fact that justifies their low awareness on matters about HIV/AIDS. The study discovered that the distribution of female and male condoms was not sufficient in comparison with the existing number of workers. Thus, it can be concluded that National Policy on HIV/AIDS is not effective in increasing awareness about HIV/AIDS for Tanzania Port Authority of Dar es Salaam as the majority of employees have a negative attitude on the use of the policy. The study recommends for the government to focus on on implementable policies and promote political will and commitment when it comes to the eradication of HIV/AIDS. |
