This study investigates enabling factors that promote knowledge sharing among employees in the Fire and Rescue Force (FRF). The study covered employees of FRF in Ilala Station. The objectives of the study were to establish how top management supports affect knowledge sharing in FRF; to assess the extent to which information technology contributes to sharing knowledge among employees in FRF; and to establish ways in which organizational culture affects sharing of knowledge among employees in FRF.
The study employed a case study research design that comprised both qualitative and quantitative data collection to get comprehensive data while examining factors that affect knowledge sharing among employees in the organization at FRF Ilala Fire Station. A case study provided in-depth systematic information about the study than using other types of research designs such as a survey. A sample of 50 respondents was selected.
This study identified organizational support, organizational culture, and technological factors as main enabling factors that promote knowledge sharing in the workplace. The results also reveal that lack of enough support from the top management, lack of knowledge on information technology, and lack of organizational culture which supports knowledge sharing hinder knowledge sharing among employees in the organization. The study concluded that, the organization has to formulate and implement policy in place to support knowledge sharing because it is a crucial tool for organization competitive advantage. The study recommends that the organization should address these factors that hinder knowledge sharing.
