dc.description A Dissertation Submitted to the Mzumbe University Dar es salaam Campus College in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Award of the Degree of Master of Science in Procurement and Supply Chain Management of Mzumbe University
dc.description The study focused on assessing the impact of information communication technology (ICT) on performance of procurement function in private manufacturing and distribution companies in Tanzania; with reference to Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) in Dar es Salaam. The study was mainly guided by three predicting variables to the dependent variable which is the performance of procurement function. The predicting variables tested to the dependent variable were restrictions on malpractices, monitoring and control of financial resources and systematization process. It was conducted using case study approach with the information collected from 100 respondents using questionnaires specifically focusing on selected study area. The collected facts from the field were analysed using SPSS for the generation of relevant statistical analysis to present the data. Descriptive statistics were first used to describe the profile of the respondents. Besides that, correlation and multiple regression analysis was also performed to show the relationship between study variables. The study results revealed that all independent variables such as restrictions on malpractices, monitoring and control of financial resources and systematization process are positive and significant statistically on performance of procurement function. This entails that the level of influence is positive and accurate on influencing the dependent variable. The implication is that performance of procurement function through application of information and communication technology (ICT) is influenced by restrictions on malpractices, monitoring and control of financial resources and systematization process. The study recommended that it is certain that procurement functions and practices are useful to be performed using computerized system since they foster efficiency and effectiveness as well as accuracy in the practices. This is important to be performed both in the private and public sector entities.
