This research focused on finding the factors affecting performance of Teachers in primary school Teachers in Temeke District. The study wanted to address three research objectives which included: determine whether low levels of salary affects teachers’ performance, investigate poor working conditions and its effect on teachers’ performance and investigate promotion practices as a factor to teachers’ performance. A case study research design was used to collect, analyze and discuss the findings. A sample size of 160 respondents was randomly selected. Data were collected through questionnaires having open and closed ended questions, observation and documentary review. The findings of this study revealed a number of factors that affect the performance of public primary schools teachers and these factors include; delayed promotions, insufficient salary increase, lack of adequate incentive package and unsupportive working conditions as well as heavy workload. The study also showed that the improvement of salary packages, working environment and reduction of workload would induce Public Primary School Teachers to perform to high levels. Recommendations of the study include salary increment, government to take deliberate action to improve teachers working conditions and timely promotions. The study further recommends carrying out a study of the same context in other regions in Tanzania.
