dc.description A Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfilment of the Requirements for Award of the Degree of Master of Science Procurement and Supply Chain Management (MSc PSCM) of Mzumbe University
dc.description This study analysed the factors influencing performance of humanitarian logistics in Tanzania. This study grounded from three theories; relationship management theory, resource based view theory and information theory. The study employed descriptive research design and used both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The study targeted a total population of 399 respondents. Of these, 200 respondents were selected using stratified sampling and purposive sampling techniques. Quantitative data were collected through questionnaires administered to them and analysed using descritive statistics and inferential statistics (factor analysis and regression analysis). Qualitative data were collected through face to face interview and analysed using content analysis. The findings indicate that government policies and regulations affect performance of humanitarian logistics in Tanzania to a great extent. The findings also show that ICT affect performance of humanitarian logistics in Tanzania to a great extent. The study findings indicate that there is strong positive relationship between financial resources and performance of humanitarian logistics (R=0.565), thus 31.5% of variation in performance of humanitarian logistics has been explained by financial resources (Adj. R 2 =0.315). Further, the findings show that there is a strong positive relationship between RM and performance of humanitarian logistics (R=0.860), thus 73.9% of variation on the performance of humanitarian logistics well explained by relationship management (Adj. R 2 =0.739). The study concludes that government policies, regulations and ICT had affected the performance of humanitarian logistics in Tanzania to a great extent. The study concluded that financial resources and relationship management has positive and significant effects on the performance of humanitarian logistics in Tanzania. Finally, the study recommends that the Government of Tanzania (GoT) should review its policies and regulations govern humanitarian issues and address the requirements of humanitarian partners, distribute more authorities to regional or district committees, develop a web based system in NRC and NRC should use integrated IT system across supplier relationship management.
