This study was about electronic procurement practices and procurement performance
in public Hospitals in Tanzania. The specific objectives of this study were to
determine the effect of e-tendering practices on procurement performance, to
examine the effect of e-sourcing practices on procurement performance, to determine
the effect of e-informing practices on procurement performance and establish the
effect of procurement integrated system on procurement performance. The study used
descriptive research design where the information was obtained from a single unit
that is MNH. The targeted population of this study was the employees of MNH and a
sample of 50 respondents was used. Data was collected through a questionnaire and
a structured interview. Data was analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential
analysis. Correlation and regression analysis was used to establish the relationship
between e-tendering practice, e-sourcing practices,e-informing practices, integrated
procurement systems and procurement performance.In relation with the first
objective, the findings revealed that e-tendering had a positive relationship to
procurement performance at at a P-value=0.000 (P<0.05). Results regarding the
second objective revealed a strong and positive relationship between e-sourcing and
procurement performance with P-value=0.001 (P<0.05). For the third objective, the
results observed thate-informing has positive influence to procurement performance
P-value=0.014 (P<0.05). The findings concerning forth objective indicated
a positive relationship between procurement integrated system and procurement
performance at a significant (P-value)=0.001 (P<0.05). The study concluded that
electronic procurement has a positive effect on procurement performance. The study
recommended that management at MNH and other stakeholders such as academicians
and policymakers should ensure that there is enough resources and stakeholders are
aware of the use of e-procurement systems. The study suggested that further study
to be conducted to determine the effects of electronic procurement practice on
procurement performance in other Tanzanian hospitals.
