dc.description The general objective of this study to assess the impact of imported finished goods versus similar locally manufactured goods on construction performance in the building industry in Tanzania. A case of Mohammedi Builders Ltd. The study had three specific objectives which are determining the policies effects on imported finished goods versus similar locally manufactured goods on construction performance , assessing the standardization effects of imported finished goods versus similar locally manufactured goods on construction performance and examine the capacity / quantity effects of imported finished goods versus similar locally manufactured goods on construction performance The study adopted casual research design. The study’s population was from Mohammedi Builders Ltd employees. A sample of 42 was recruited through the use of simple random techniques and purposive sampling method. Data was collected through the use of questionnaires and interviews. Both factor analysis and regression approaches were used in data analysis and presentation followed by a discussion. It is concluded that for the imported finished goods are highly taxed, thus high exercise duties from authorities. Moreover, TBS has established Import Standardization Mark (ISM), the system has been claimed to be very complicated and takes long time. Also, domestic policies and trade policies do not favor the importation of finished building materials. On the standardization of the building materials, imported finished building materials have high quality in terms of durability and physical appearance. Also, the size of imported finished materials have the needed size for effective construction performance. However, most of locally manufactured materials have no high quality. Even the size of the building materials from local manufacturers does not reflect effective construction. Lastly, it is concluded that local manufacturers of building materials have no capacity to feed the demand in the market, followed by high prices of the products and late delivery compared to imported finished building materials The government should enhance the capacity of local manufacturers by providing training on how to produce well qualified items Also, capacity building should be directed to local manufacturers by providing funds to them through credit facility
