This research study aimed at assessing the contribution of the Savings and
Cooperative Society named Tandale and WAT SACCOS on how they have helped to
contribute to the improvement of the livelihood of its members. There has never been
consistency in the documentation of the institutional performance of the microfinance
institutions, (Tandale and WAT SACCOS being one among) on how they are helping
their members in improving their livelihood. This has been the research problem and
the researcher has used the case study of Tandale and WAT SACCOS to work on it.
The study used the Key Informants Interview and Focus Group Discussion in the field
data collection. The documentary review of the documents relevant to the study has
been done too. The researcher used a case study research design and developed a
qualitative analysis of the research findings. The researcher findings reflected the
activities done by Tandale and WAT SACCOS. The researcher has made a clear
discussion on the discussion of the findings in relation to the research objectives. The
clear interpretation of the obtained data has enabled precise description of the research
study by the researcher.
In general, the research objectives reflected the conditions and procedures of taking a
loan at the Tandale and WAT SACCOS, researcher also assessed the way the
conditions and procedures have been helpful in helping the members to improve their
livelihood, assessed the contribution of the Tandale and WAT SACCOS in the
economic growth and income-generating activities of its members and obtained the
views of the members on what can be done further to improve their livelihood. The
researcher concludes the study in a clear manner and provides recommendations that
can be useful to Tandale SACCOS, WAT SACCOS, and any other like-minded
SACCOS group or microfinance institution in Tanzania.
