From the Executive Director report, Muhimbili National Hospital was facing serious
challenges in its supply chain, where stock control was an issue leading to high levels
of medicines and medical supplies in stock, their uncertain availability; which both
increased costs of operations. Solution to this challenge was considered to be the use
of Jeeva, Computerized Information System in order to control stock by reducing
operational costs, increase availability of medicines and medical supplies and their
effective use.
This paper is part of a study that investigates the influence of Jeeva Information
System in Stock Control at Muhimbili National Hospital. The study was conducted at
Emergency Medicine; that access to relevant information and knowledge is critical to
the stock control and delivery of effective healthcare services.
The study used a cross sectional survey design. Study was conducted at Emergency
Medicine Department and interviewed 50 workers. Purposive sampling technique
was used to get 50 required respondents from various sections of Accounts/Finance,
Administration, Pharmacy, Supplies, Medicine, Nursing and patients.
The study revealed that Jeeva information system has influenced stock control
positively by reducing operational costs including ordering and carrying costs,
increasing availability of medicines and medical supplies and ensuring their effective
use in the organization; through reducing theft and pilferage cases. The study
recommends that Jeeva Information System be used as a means of cutting down
operational costs, increasing availability of medicines and medical supplies and
increasing effective use of the medicines and medical supplies. |
