HIV/AIDS continues to pose threats to human kind. The impact of HIV/AIDS have been felt from all walks of life; socially, economically and politically. Several efforts have been taken by international and national communities to contain the adverse effects of HIV/AIDS among the society. One of the strategies for addressing HIV/AIDS in the world of works is through implementation of HIV/AIDS workplace interventions targeting workforce. In responding to implementation of workplace programs the government of Tanzania issued Circular No 2 of 2006 directing all public employers to design and implement HIV/AIDS workplace programs. In 2007, the government issued guidelines directing how the employers would implement the circular no 2 of 2006. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluating the implementation process and effects of HIV/AIDS workplace interventions among secondary school teachers in Morogoro Municipal Council.
The study adopted a case study design. Data was collected through documentary, in-depth interview guide and focus group discussions. The study participants were purposively selected from the council and secondary school levels. The criteria for selecting participants were knowledge about the program and involvement in the implementation process of the program. The analysis was done using case by case and cross case analysis approach. The analysis was guided by prepositions generated in the conceptual framework and organized on the logical flow of objectives and research questions.
The findings indicated that there is some form of implementation of HIV/AIDS workplace programs at Municipal council though not comprehensively implemented. There was no evidence of implementation of HIV/AIDS workplace in the secondary schools. Therefore, we recommended that the government should find mechanisms of ensuring compliance in the implementation of HIV/AIDS workplace programs among teachers and other working populations in the country. |
