Introduction
GDM is defined by WHO as glucose intolerance of variable severity with onset or
first recognition during pregnancy. GDM usually occur due to impaired carbohydrate
metabolism.
GDM is increasing worldwide and progress to type 2 diabetes mellitus. An increase
of GDM is also observed in Tanzania.
Multiple associated factors of GDM like age, previous GDM, history of DM in the
family etc, have been observed and may differ according to the population studied.
GDM predispose the mother and fetus to increased risk of multiple complications
during pregnancy and later.
Its early identification and control reduces the complications and improve maternal
and neonatal health.
Broad objectives: To determine the Maternal and fetal outcomes among women with
gestational diabetes in Moshi urban municipality (KCMC,Majengo and Pasua)from
august 2016 to april 2017.
Methodology
The study design will be a prospective cohort study. The study area will be KCMC,
Majengo and Pasua hospital. All pregnant women who will meet the criteria set will
be enrolled and undergo OGTT. The maternal outcomes will be assessed and
evaluated. All the newborn babies will be assessed by a pediatrician immediately
after delivery.The data will be analysed by using SPSS version 22. The ethical
clearance will be obtained from the KCMUCO ethical Committee.
