Objective: To deternine the prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB),
associated risk factors and antibiotic sensitivity pattern among women attending
antenatal clinic at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Nothern
Tanzania.
Methodology: This will be an analytical cross section study involving 173 women
attending antenatal clinic (ANC) at KCMC. These women, who will have to be
pregnant at the time of recruitment, will be recruited into the study following a
thorough history taking to rule out urinary symptoms or a recent history of urinary
tract infection (UTI) treatment or antibiotics use.
The study will be conducted from July 2016 to March 2017.
Data will be collected through use of interview guide and laboratory data extraction
sheet. Analysis will be done by use of statistical package for social sciences (SPSS)
version 20. Distribution statistics will be used for continuous variables while
frequency and proportions will be used for categorical variables.
While ethical clearance will be sought from the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical
University college (KCMUco) ethics committee, a written consent will be sought
from each participant before inclusion into the study. |
