Description:
Background: Amputation is one of the oldest surgical techniques with artificial limbs identified from over 2500 years ago. It is seen as a failure of treatment but can be the treatment of choice and lifesaving procedure for severe trauma, vascular disease and tumors. The burden and outcome of non-traumatic limb amputee at KCMC Hospital is unidentified.
Aim: To determine the prevalence, indications, levels and outcome non-traumatic limb amputation of limb amputation at KCMC Hospital from January 2011 to December.
Methods: This will be a 5 years cross-sectional retrospective hospital based study that will be conducted at KCMC Hospital between January 2011 and December 2015. All patients who underwent non traumatic limb amputation will be enrolled into the study. Data will be collected using coded questionnaire and analyze using SPSS version 20 computer software.
