dc.description Background: GBV among women is considered as a worldwide problem, mostly occur to women aged 15 – 44 years which may result to physical, sexual, and psychological harm or suffering to women. It affects all race, age, religious and national boundaries. From WHO results of 2013 shown that prevalence of GBV among women ranges from 27.2% to 45.6%.The study helped to know the burden of it in study area because women were considered as hidden group so people will have knowledge, awareness and able to suggest relevant and feasible community and health care based interventions of GBV against female university students. Objectives: The study focused on determining prevalence, associative factors, and types of GBV and perpetrators of GBV among undergraduates female university students in Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania. Methodology: Crossectional study design was conducted among 449 undergraduate female university students as a study sample. Probability proportional sampling technique was used and data was collected by using self-administered questionnaires. SPSS was used to analyse data whereby mean, median, measure of dispersion, percentage was used to summaries data and frequency tables for data presentation. Results: Majority of the participants were between 19 to 24 years and almost half of them were single (52.2%) .Majority of those students whowere married or in relationship, the age of their husbands or partner were between 20 to 29 years (69.7%). Prevalence of GBV among undergraduate university students at Kilimanjaro region was found to be 52.4% . More than half experienced violence before joining at the college (54.4%) and emotional violence was the common type of GBV experienced (45.7%).age more than 30 was among the common associative factors together with alcohol use and ,marital status(being relationship).Teachers and husbands/partners were found to be common perpetrators who violate them(17.2%) and (11.4%) respectively. Conclusion: GBV is a worldwide problem which involves women of all age groups. Therefore education should be provided to the community and to the formal education centers (like universities) through projects, campaigns which should be organized by MoHCDGEC in order to reduce the burden of violence, the community will be aware of the problem and will understand that it affects women of all age groups as the results show that teachers and husband/partners are the most common perpetrators.
