dc.description Introduction Cancer of the cervix is the cancer resulting from infection with Human papilloma virus. Cancer of the cervix is the second mostly life threatening cancer among women worldwide and leading cause of deaths in women in the developing countries. Its prevalence has been very high in many developing countries due to financial constraints and lack of reliable population based screening program. Up-to-date and reliable data are needed to assess the prevalence and clinical stages of cervical cancer at KCMC to show trend and define priorities for the future in terms of screening and treatment Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of cervical cancer, clinical presentation and clinical staging at the time of admission, of patients diagnosed with cervical cancer among patients admitted in gynecology ward at KCMC between the years 2013-2015 . Methodology A retrospective cross-sectional study design was used through medical record reviews of patient files, 2013- 2015( three years study) among women admitted at KCMCgynaecology ward who meet the inclusions and exclusions criteria were enrolled in the study, data obtained were analyzed using statistical package for the social science (SPSS) version 20. Consistency of the data was maintained, analyzed and reported inform of frequency tables and text Results: The prevalence of burn injuries in children was found to be 9.5%.All of the study participants were symptomatic presenting mostly with abnormal vaginal bleeding, lower abdominal pain and abnormal vaginal discharge, and painful coitus.At admission 96(38.4%), 77(30%) women were diagnosed at stage 3 and 4 respectively. Only 24 (9.6%)participants were at stage 1 Conclusion The prevalence of cervical cancer in this studywas 9.5% , and most of study participants were symptomatic and majority were diagnosed at an advanced stage ( 3and 4) .This may necessitate establishment of adequate screening programs for cervical cancer on women within the northern zone for early detection which may guarantee better treatment and prognosis of the disease
