dc.description The provision of satisfactory information services is normally determined by adequate knowledge of information seeking behaviors of the served group. Many researchers in the field of library and information science have for long investigated the information seeking behaviors of users to understand the seeking patterns that enhance provision of good library services. The objective of this study was to assess students’ preferences in utilizing legal information and outlining challenges of utilization and ways to improve the utilization of sources of legal information. A survey method was used to identify students’ preferences in utilizing sources of legal information at the Law School of Tanzania. From the results, it was possible to identify preferred sources of legal information of the Law School of Tanzania students. Challenges in the utilization of sources of legal information were also mentioned parallel with strategies of overcoming them to ensure satisfactory legal information services at the Law School of Tanzania library. It was recommended that the Law School library should take advantage of the students’ legal information needs and preferences identified by this study to develop its collection and ways of services delivery. Among immediate recommended actions to improve library services at the Law School of Tanzania library include (1) improving library budget to be able to acquire current and relevant library resources preferred by law school students, (2) library collaboration with national legal organs such as the Court of Law and other similar libraries to improve the availability of required sources of legal information, (3) extending library opening hours especially during the weekends, and (4) improving the use of information and communication technologies and electronic sources of legal information. The study concludes that the Law School of Tanzania library is in a good position to improve its services with advice gained from the findings of this study. The Law School of Tanzania library is unique as it mainly serves legal professionals in the country; thus it should equip itself with enough resources and services not only to serve the academic purposes but also the needs of legal professionals in the country.
