The study was on the effects of credit access and training to small and medium business
enterprises which substantially affect the growth, development of SMBE. The study was guided

by specific objective such as to identify the major challenge that lenders encounters when
lending to SMBE at Ukerewe District in Mwanza. To determine the effect of access to credit on
the growth of SMBEs in Ukerewe District, Mwanza. To establish the effect of entrepreneurial
training on growth of the SMBEs in Ukerewe District, Mwanza. The study was carried out in
Ukerewe District in Mwanza. It focused on the effect of credit access and entrepreneurial
training on the growth of SMBEs in Ukerewe District, Mwanza. The study adopted cross sectional survey research design. The sample size of this study was 100 respondents obtained
through simple random sampling procedure as well as convenient sampling. The study used
questionnaire and interview as tools for data collection. Data were analyzed using the Statistical
Package for Social Science (SPSS). The study revealed that there are number of challenges were
identified which includes lack of collaterals to secure the required loans, lack of the financial
statement of the business which show the ability to repay the loans, presence of mismatch
between the given credits and actual needs of the business. Also it was revealed that access to
credits by the small and medium business enterprises it was revealed that it helps in greater
extent in aspects such as improving working environment, also credits helps small business in
settling the existing debts which the business has on the other hand it was also established that
access to credits helps in the improvement of the working capital of the business. Also it was
revealed that entrepreneurial training serves various purposes for the growth and development
despite the presence of various challenges faced by the small business in the course of accessing
these services hence it should be noted that growth and development of the small and medium
business enterprises depends much on the access to the credits and entrepreneurial trainings. The
study recommended that business owners should form themselves into groups so that it could
simplify the process of dealing with group of business entities that provision of credits to single
business entity. The owners of the business should make sure that they employ the use of
banking transactions so as to have a statement of cash flows for their business as well as to get a
well structured financial statement for the business as a requirement for the access of the credits.
That more practical training about the application of the secured loans and credits through
physical assessment of the customer on the ability to repay the loans. |
