This study examined the Impact of corporate social responsibility by GGM on sustainable
community development in Geita District. It specifically aimed to find out perception in the
company towards adherence to laws governing its operations on corporate social responsibility,
to examine the role played by community towards formulation and implementation of corporate
social responsibility policy, as well as to examine the challenges affecting the implementation of
the corporate social responsibility policy. The researcher employed a mixed research approach
with a case study design in which both primary and secondary tools of data collection such as
interview, questionnaires as well as documentary reviews were employed to collect data from the
sample size of 50 respondents who participated in this study. The findings were analyzed using
numbers, percentages, whereby SPSS version 20 interpreted data obtained from questionnaires in
order to answer the research questions. The study found that performance of the corporate social
responsibility to a greater extent depends on the performance of the government officials on
follow up of laws and policies governing CSR; therefore the government should make sure that it
plays its part towards achieving the goals. The second research objective revealed that corporate
social responsibility has various contributions to the well being of the community members, but
the benefits of CSR can be well realized if there is effective supervision of the implemented
programs by the government. The last objective revealed the presence of a number of challenges
affecting the implementation of CSR programs in the mining areas, however, the following
recommendations were given in order to ensure the effective implementation of CSR, the
measures include the review of laws and policies related to CSR, also creating good relationship
between the government and GGM in order to remove the misunderstandings, however, GGM
must consider themselves as part of the community hence act in good faith. |
