dc.description The study examines the word formation processes in Kihehe language. It specifically investigate three processes which are used in creating words namely derivation, compounding and borrowing. There are various studies which were conducted worldwide on word formation processes, but most of them were done on languages of wider communication. In this study two theories were used to achieve the objectives of the study, these are word based and morpheme based approach. Thus, the theories used in this study met the objective of the study. Moreover, the data for this study were collected in Kimilinzowo village which is in Mufindi district in Iringa region. In collecting data four research methods were used namely documentary review, focus group discussion, introspection and unstructured interview. In reviewing the document, Ikihehe bible were used. The documents were analysed to investigate the derivation, borrowing and compound words. The study discovered that, borrowing in Ikihehe have influence from Kiswahili and other foreign language because of science and technology. Also in compounding, it revealed that, there are three types of compound in Ikihehe namely noun, verb and adjective compounds. Also in deriving new words four derivation processes were used, that is, deriving a noun from an adjective, deriving a noun from a verb, deriving a noun from a noun and deriving an adverb from a noun. As it is known that, “no any study which can investigate each and everything”, thus this study give clear way for other scholar to study on other processes of creating words. Therefore, this study will help other scholars who are interested in Bantu language especially in Kihehe language to backup their studies.
