ABSTRACT
The overall purpose of the research was to examine The Effect of Employees’ Job Satisfaction
on Work Performance at Mwanza City Council. The study also took a wide role by looking on
the most influential factors affecting job satisfaction in Mwanza City Council on the basis of
the factors that were presumed to affect job satisfaction included payment, team work,
opportunities for promotions, job security, and working conditions.
The following specific objectives were covered; first was to explore the employee’s views
towards job satisfaction in Mwanza City Council; second was to establish the effect of job
satisfaction on work performance in Mwanza City Council; and, third was to establish factors
that enhance job satisfaction and job performance at Mwanza City Council and propose
solutions to the said factors.
The study adopted a descriptive research design. The area of study was Mwanza City Council.
The total population was 104 employees. Both random and purposive sampling techniques
were applied. Employees were divided into five categories, namely, operation staffs, middle
staffs, senior staffs, principal staffs, and the management. Data was obtained through
questionnaires and the analysis was done with the help of SPSS version 16.0.
The study shows that high percent of employees are not satisfied with pay and opportunities
for promotion and to a large extent they are not motivated by them too. Factors like working
condition, job security, supervision and leadership, team work, organisational policy,
technology change and organisational culture affect employees’ performance at Mwanza City
Council.
The study recommends that; Mwanza City Council should improve the whole compensation
package and promotion opportunities: to make sure that they relate to the employee’s
performance so as to enhance the overall Mwanza City Council goal achievement. |
