The study aimed at determining the effect of Organizational conflicts on Organizational
performance, a case study of the College of Business Education, Dar es Salaam Campus. Despite
the fact that the government has intervened as much as possible, still the College of Business
education experienced a lot of Organizational Conflicts that impeded the entire development of
the College. Therefore, the study was an attempt to study various causes, effects, type and the
best solution to minimize Organizational Conflicts.
Specifically, the study sought, to find out the causes of Organizational conflicts; to assess the
type of organizational conflicts at CBE Dar es Salaam Campus; to assess the effects of
organizational conflict on the performance of CBE and to find out the best solution in solving
organizational conflict.
The study was a descriptive research design as it described the effects of organizational conflicts
on the organizational performance of the College of Business Education (CBE) Dar es Salaam
Campus. The targeted population was 200 academic and non- academic employees, out of which
the study was conducted on 40% percent of the population. Simple random sampling and
convenience sampling was used to obtain a sample size. Data was gathered by the use of
questionnaires and interview and the analysis was done by the use of Statistical Package for
Social Sciences (SPSS).
The study shows that the type of conflict that most occurred at CBE were interpersonal conflict
and the leading variables which were considered in this study as the causes of conflicts was poor
compensation package, followed by incompatible reward system, poor working conditions and
overlapping authority. The study revealed that the leading effects of organizational conflicts at
CBE were resistance to change, lack of cooperation, unfair distribution of resources as well as
slow down of implementation of HR policies.
The study recommends that in order to minimize organizational conflicts the College should
improve its working environment, enhance a clear channel of communication, and provide up-to date human resources and other related policies with provision of adequate compensation
package as well as fair distribution of resources.
