dc.description Maintenance departments in many Tanzanian industries are in pathetic shapes. They lack skilled manpower and spare parts, have poor record-keeping, do ad-hoc execution of maintenance programs, and many unplanned maintenance activities. In general there are only haphazard and ineffective maintenance management systems. Maintenance personnel in Tanzanian industries assert that the major problems, which restrain their maintenance activities, are scarcity of spare parts and skilled manpower. A detailed analysis of the maintenance problems in Tanzanian industries has revealed that major problems are within the organization structures of the industries and management of maintenance activities.
