dc.description This study aimed to assess the impacts of innovative school leadership on achievement of student's academic performance. Mixed methods approach with ex post facto research design was used to assess the cause and effect of student’s lower performance in ordinary level(ward secondary school) summative exams. Schools which participate in the study were obtained through simple random sampling, stratified sampling to have Students and teachers and purposive sampling for head of school. Data were collected from respondents through questionnaire and semi structured interview and presented using tables, graphs and figures through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). On the other hand percentages, Pearson correlation and t test were used to test objectives. The findings shows that, leaders assist teaching methodology by signing on teacher’s lesson plans. Moreover, teacher of ward secondary school are younger with minimum qualification to teach and lower working experience which lead to low academic performance of students. The study concluded that most of innovations done by school leaders seems to be directive from the ministry of education and vocational training. This makes all schools to look alike. The study recommended the head of school to be self creative, something which can be achieved through study programmes. Facilitation of teaching methods and management of resources should be specific depending on the nature of the school.
